Koh Samui Bars and Nightlife Guide

Samui is all about leisure, from its beaches, water sports and spas to its pumping night life. All beach resorts have a measure of Samui nightlife, with Chaweng and Lamai the main places to have a party. They come with beach bars, go go bars, sports bars, nightclubs and live music venues.

In comparison, all other beaches are markedly quiet in this respect, with the exception of Bophut, though for full-on nightlife atmosphere, it’s all Chaweng and Lamai. Chaweng has the largest selection and is especially noted for its beer bars where you can pick up prostitutes. They are mainly in the lake area of Central Chaweng, while North Chaweng is a lot more laidback.

Chaweng also has many sports bars and fun bars right on the beach, such as the long-standing, expat-tourist-centric Ark Bar. These have good atmosphere, music, sports on TV, beers on tap and some eating. Beers are usually around 80-100 baht (Singha, Chang, Tiger, and Heineken), although imports are about double and ales on tap—including Guinness and the like—more again.

Lamai is smaller, yet has a more intense beer bar and go go bar scene than Chaweng, although nothing on the scale of Phuket or Pattaya. The girls here are cheaper (if that’s your thing), yet reputed to be not as pretty, in general, as Chaweng. Closing time in the ‘entertainment zones’ of Chaweng and Lamai is 01:00; sometimes as late as 02:00. More on Koh Samui nightlife.

Can you bring girls to your hotel?
Some Bangkok hotels don’t mind tourists bringing bar girls back to their room as long as they are discreet, while others charge extra or forbid it altogether. To save the embarrassment we’ve enquired with most of them and listed those that are suited to bachelors; see the list, rates and booking here.

Discos will stay open later and Chaweng Beach has many of them. The main club is Green Mango, sat on the street of the same name. Soi Green Mango is also good for nightclubs. Karaoke places can be found all over the island, though are mainly the preserve of the locals.

Best known bars in Chaweng are the Reggae Pub (Chaweng Lake), with its live bands and fun atmosphere; the Islander (Chaweng Road), with Thai and Western menu and live sporting events; Tropical Murphy’s, also on Beach Road; and the Ark Bar, at the beach.

Lamai bars include Beach Republic, featuring trendy décor and also a restaurant; the lively Monkey Bar; Safari Pub, for pool and TV sports; and Kangaroo Bar, complete with boxing ring. For live music, the Outback Bar in the centre has bands playing most nights. More on Samui bars.

The Fisherman’s Village at Bophut also has a bit of a night scene, as do other places on the island, though there tends to be more of a make-up of romantic places and resort bars. Billabong, The Pub, and Frog and Gecko at Fisherman’s Village are the favourites. Big Buddha Beach also has options, such as the BBC Restaurant.

Meeting horny Thai girls for free:
Many ‘bachelors’ visiting Thailand take the easy way out by visiting girlie bars and go go bars, but there are also regular girls not on the game that are keen on meeting foreigners for a fling. Horny and lonely girls go looking for sex online with visiting or resident Westerners. They aren’t expecting money or a long-term boyfriend and haven’t been with many other men. One of the best places to meet these chicks is Adult Friend Finder, where there are more than 10,000 registered Thai female members.
